Scripts to Read the City is a project I developed in collaboration with Anita Burato. It began with a shared curiosity about how we might publish while being outdoors. We realized that urban spaces are already heavily scripted, full of rules and signs that guide our actions. The project reimagines the concept of a“script” not as a set of fixed rules, but as an invitation to interpret, wander, and notice. In response, we designed an object and publication that encourages a different, more playful way of navigating the city. Led by narrative, chance, and embodied experience.
The physical object includes a tube containing a tilt sensor. After every 50 steps, it randomly activates one of two LED lights— each representing a character: the Listener or the Observer. The reader follows instructions from the printed publication based on the activated light, prompting an ongoing shift in perception and role during the walk.
